Dear District 5730 Rotarians,

I wanted to tell you that my husband, Dr. Michael W. Pendleton, died early this morning, 26 October, in the critical care unit where he spent the weekend at a hospital in Abilene, near our Hawley Woods Ranch.  During his 71 years, Mike baffled doctors by calmly and humorously surviving and totally recovering from several major illnesses, making us know that God is in control.

Mike and I were married for 40 years in August.  We met during our Masters’ degrees in Anthropology at California State University, Chico, and went to Texas A&M University at College Station for our Ph.D. degrees.  Mike retired two years ago from being a scanning electron microscopist for 17 years at Texas A&M University.  He also was a fully certified Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) mechanic and could fix anything.

Mike and I are members of Canyon Rotary Club.  Mike was a Paul Harris Fellow+1 and a member of the Paul Harris Society.  Although I will miss Mike’s company and advice, I really look forward to continuing our Rotary service throughout District 5730 this year.

Mike is survived by no relatives except me and my four siblings.  He always was cheerful and wanted no one to be sad, so he requested no memorial service and to be cremated.   I am truly grateful and blessed to have shared and been inspired by Mike’s life well lived.

Sincerely,
Bonnie Pendleton, Ph.D.
Governor of Rotary District 5730
